Registered Nurse (ER Float Pool) - Denver/Zone 3
Location: Centennial, Colorado
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours per Day: 12

Job Overview
- Float pool position covering multiple emergency departments within a 60-mile radius around Denver city center (Zone 3).
- No home base facility; must be willing and able to float between the following hospitals:
- OrthoColorado Hospital (~10 miles from Denver)
- Longmont United Hospital (~40 miles from Denver)
- St. Anthony Hospital (~10 miles from Denver)
- St. Anthony North Hospital (~12 miles from Denver)
- Schedules released 4–6 weeks in advance with two possible formats:
- Scheduled at a single facility for the week with possible floating within that facility.
- Just-In-Time (JIT) assignment: facility assigned 1–2 hours before shift start.
- Weekend and holiday work required every other week.
- Orientation lasts 2-3 days; clinicians must be in-state for orientation week.
- Scrub color/dress code: Navy Blue.
Unit & Patient Care
- Unit: Emergency Room (ER) Float Pool.
- Trauma Level: Varies by facility; mostly Trauma Level 3.
- Facilities are STEMI receiving and Stroke centers.
- Patient volume varies from 40 to 168 patients per day depending on location.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-5 based on acuity.
- Common patient diagnoses: abdominal pain, diabetes mellitus, NSTEMI, pneumonia, trauma, stroke, hypertension.
- ER holds are intermixed within the ER; no separate psych/seclusion rooms.
- Charge nurse takes an assignment.
- Respiratory therapists available 24/7; RNs must be able to troubleshoot respiratory equipment and interpret telemetry strips (no monitor tech support).
- Point of Care lab testing performed by RNs after training.
- Techs assist with unit secretary duties, nursing support, and triage assistance.
Required Certifications
- ACLS (American Heart Association)
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- PALS (American Heart Association)
- NIHSS
- TNCC
Experience & Skills
- Must have ER nursing experience (minimum years not explicitly stated; assume standard ER RN competency).
- Ability to float within the entire zone and adapt to different ER environments.
- Must be flexible to fill scheduling gaps.
- Able to read and interpret telemetry strips independently.
- Experience with standard ER medications and drips.
Additional Requirements
- Must secure housing that allows floating within the 60-mile zone.
- No call or standby requirements.
- Must comply with floating requirements within Zone 3 ERs.
- Week of orientation requires in-state presence even if some modules are completed remotely.
This position is ideal for ER nurses comfortable with floating across multiple facilities, working night shifts, and managing a high-acuity patient population in a dynamic environment.
