Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift: Day shift, 4 days a week, 10-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 5:00 PM)
  • Call Requirements:
    • On-call 2-star call until 11 PM once per week
    • On-call every 3rd to 4th weekend
  • Operating Rooms: 12 ORs available
  • Floating: No floating between service lines or sister facilities

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 5 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Radiation Badge (must be provided by the agency)
  • Experience in Neurology, Orthopedics, ENT Surgery, and OB/GYN specialties

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd to 4th weekend
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks; called off hours can be broken down but total no more than 1 shift
  • Local Radius Rule: 60-mile radius; local travelers not accepted
  • Block Schedule: Possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs

  • Total Staffed Beds: 276
  • Scrubs: Provided
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Parking: Free
  • Hurricane Season: June through November; employees and contractors may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
    • Includes SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches
  • Work History Verification: Not required for this facility
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Performance Evaluation: Must be dated within 12 months of start
  • Employment Application: Complete application or resume required
  • Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually for applicable units

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Initial and updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Immunizations & Titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination form required
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; low titer requires boosters
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; low titer requires boosters
  • TB Testing:
    • 2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold within 90 days of contract start (T-spot not permitted)
    • If positive, chest X-ray proof required
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; no instant tests accepted
  • Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
  • Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required for respirator use via RespSafety questionnaire

Certifications & Training

  • Additional Certifications:
    • ACLS (AHA or ARC only) may be required depending on unit
    • Other certifications (PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke, Chemo) as applicable per unit/job description
  • Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology and other competency exams as required
  • Orientation: Completion of facility-specific orientation modules and safety manual acknowledgment required before start
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo required

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Assignment Acknowledgment, Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreements, HR Policy Manual, Systems User Agreement, User Access Request: All must be reviewed and/or signed prior to start
  • Radiation Exposure Attestation: Required for units needing radiation badge
  • Radiation Badge Process: Candidates cannot start without radiation badge; badge processing may take 5-7 days
  • COVID & Flu Documentation: Must be uploaded into facility system prior to start or during orientation
  • Mini Orientation: Review and acknowledgment required
