Sterile Processing Tech (SPT) - Travel/Contract Position

Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Shift: Night, Monday to Friday, 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM (5 shifts/week, 8 hours each)


Job Summary

  • Primary role in Decontamination with occasional floating to sterilization within the department.
  • Requires experience in Trauma Level I and II settings.
  • Floating may be required within the specialty, other units, and sister facilities within scope.
  • Holidays and weekends required as scheduled.
  • On-call is not required.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician, including experience within the last year.
  • At least 2 years of total travel experience as a Sterile Processing Technician.
  • Experience working with Level 1 and Level 2 Trauma patients.
  • Certifications: CBSPD and IAHCSMM/HSPA required.
  • Experience with specialized equipment including:
    • Steam Sterilizer
    • Washer Disinfector
    • VPR Low temperature sterilization
    • Medivator (Scope processing)
    • Scope Buddy
    • Cart Washer

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID and valid driver’s license required.
  • I9 attestation and E-Verify compliance mandatory.
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal search, education verification, and various federal/state screenings required. Felonies within 5 years are automatic disqualifiers.
  • Two supervisory references within 1 year of start required.
  • Employment application/resume must be completed within 30 days of start.
  • Verification of previous 5 years of work history required (attestation accepted if necessary).
  • Maryland State Exclusions List check required within 30 days of start.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol, updated annually.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (not required for Sterile Processing Techs at this facility).
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if working with children)
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination; series not accepted)
    • Varicella
  • Negative drug screen (9-panel) within 30 days prior to start; instant tests not accepted.
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 6 – Mar 31).
  • COVID vaccine not required for this location but documentation or declination collected for tracking.

Facility-Specific Information

  • Uniform: Navy blue scrubs; pink scrubs for trauma assignments. Pediatric department allows child-friendly tops with navy blue pants.
  • Dress code prohibits jeans, open-toe shoes, sleeveless tops, and shorts in certain departments.
  • Passport-style photo with solid white or beige background required for badge.
  • Confidentiality agreement and security ID application must be signed/completed prior to start.
  • Epic Portfolio Training Test Out form may be required depending on prior Epic experience.

Additional Notes

  • Medication, pharmacology, and competency exams may be required as applicable.
  • Color blind testing required for all candidates.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training required as applicable.

This position is ideal for experienced Sterile Processing Technicians with trauma experience seeking a travel contract in a Level I/II trauma environment.
